Have you tried being a “real” man in the modern world? It’s not easy, is it? The modern social norms, or the lack of them really, have made it almost impossible for a man to discern between what is right and what is wrong, what is perceived to be right, and what is truly the mark of a real man.
Society changes us, from the moment your parents teach you how to talk and behave, to the moment you step into the office for the first time, and face your peers, your inner and outer challenges, your fears and your aspirations.
It’s not easy being a man. Not because you can’t crack it. Because you don’t know which road sign to follow. Which of these directions will lead you down a path of self-fulfillment and self-actualization, and which of them end up at the edge of a cliff?
In a world governed by social media, political impotence, diluted norms among genders and races; in a world where it is easier to be discredited for something you’re not than to be rightfully accused of something you have done; in a world where a man doesn’t truly know how to be one, there is a need to take a journey inward in order to find your true self.
Let’s begin your journey, so that you may find what it truly means to be a better human being.
By the way… I did use a bit of a trick in the title just to get your attention and rise above all the noise that is going on in social media.
Now that I have it, let’s delve deeper into the idea of becoming better human being.
Tame Your Spirit
When was the last time any of your life’s stories had a happy ending when you allowed your temper to be triggered by external stimuli? When has verbal or physical violence ever lead to anything more than more violence itself? The answer is never, and even if peace has ever come from violence, it was not a peace of reconciliation, but of fear, anger, and defeat.
The answer is never, and even if peace has ever come from violence, it was not a peace of reconciliation, but of fear, anger, and defeat.
The first step towards becoming a better man, a better human being, is learning to tame your spirit. Not subdue it or change it into something you’re not, rather channel it towards establishing inner peace, health, and emotional and psychological well-being. The easiest way to do that is to learn how to meditate.
Meditation is an ancient art, and a skill, that takes some time to learn, accept, grow to love, and finally relinquish yourself into. You might have heard time and time again about the benefits of meditation on the human mind, body, and soul. However, if that seems too vague for you, simply think of meditation as your gateway to a calmer, clearer, more masculine You.

Rather than trying to learn how to cope with every single obstacle in your way, meditation will teach you how to cope with all of them before they even get the chance to challenge your patience, your inner resolve, your confidence, and most importantly, your temper.
Eat Your Way To a Healthy Body And Mind
The popular phrase “you are what you eat” is so deeply embedded in popular culture that it has completely lost its significance, and is used without true meaning or intent. Yet the message is as powerful as ever, to those who are brave enough to perceive it.
Within a healthy body resides a healthy mind and a joyful soul, and if there is a part of a man’s life where he should allow no compromise, it is his diet. The foods you eat on a daily basis will not only shape the image in your mirror, but they will also have a profound impact on your emotional and psychological well-being.
Grounding yourself and becoming a better man depends on your ability to feed your body and your mind the nutrients it needs and deserves to facilitate change, progress, and ultimately, success.
Your diet choices will not only affect your hormone production, your energy levels, and your cognitive functions, they will also affect your outer appearance as well.
It might seem ludicrous, but once you experience flatulence and cramps, various breakouts on your skin, as well as pain and discomfort all over your body, you witness the toll physical change can have on your emotional wellbeing and you will learn the importance of dealing with these issues preventively.
Find Inner Strength In Exercise
There are numerous apparent and scientifically proven benefits of regular exercise, yet few speak of the underlying rewards that await a man who devotes his time to strengthening his muscles, his bones, and his very core. Exercise builds physical strength, but more importantly, it builds mental fortitude.
There is not a cathartic experience quite as powerful as the moment you realize that the only adversary you ever have to face, is yourself. Men walk through life trying to prove themselves to others while unbeknownst to them, they are only proving their inability to empathize with others, or even empathize with the reflection in the mirror.
Yes, it is okay to cry as a man, yes, it is okay to talk with your friends about your problems when overburdened with adversity, but you will find your inner strength to let your true manhood speak for itself once you learn to deal with the pain of physical exercise. Training will help you become stronger in more ways than one, so don’t rely on the size of your muscles, rather turn your attention towards the masculine voice that wants to show its true face.

Take up a sport, and you will learn what it means to rise from adversity.
Build Your Unique Personality With Diversity
What makes a real man? Nothing. And everything. There is no norm. The question you should ask yourself is not how to become a real man, but how to become a better one. What you have between your legs defines your gender, but what you carry inside your heart and your mind will determine what you’re worth.
You want to carry knowledge. The age-old adage stating that knowledge is power was not invented by the weak in order to compensate for their physical shortcomings; the aphorism was invented by the powerful, by the conquerors, by the rulers.
If you want to be the ruler of your reality, your mind, body, and soul, you need to read, you need to listen, you need to observe. You need to question everything. Rather than mindlessly obsessing about what the ruling classes have instilled in your mind, like social media, the products you don’t need, and the things you shouldn’t care about, you want to break the subliminal chains and devote your time and energy towards gathering knowledge.

A bewildering man is a smart man, able to talk about the things others haven’t even taken the time to think about, able to see beyond the lies and the norms, and charm everyone around him with the clarity and freedom he portrays.
Knowledge is power. The power to know yourself, the power to be yourself and the power to remain one with yourself.
Become An Altruist And Respect Others
Is there such a thing as altruism, or is it simply an apocryphal notion invented to mask our true nature as human beings? Do you know anyone whom you can label as a true altruist? Sadly, your answer was probably no. However, that doesn’t mean that you as a better human being cannot learn to strive towards altruism.
And the first step you need to take towards selflessly giving, and loving others, is to selflessly love yourself. Love breeds love, and by learning to accept who you are and to love the person you want to become, you will be able to receive love from others and give it out without hesitation, without fear.
Learning to respect yourself and everyone around you is the first step towards learning to love yourself, and everyone around you. A better man is able to rise against the negativity and the violence towards which the modern world so eagerly gravitates, and he does so by stoically giving love and respect where others would turn away in angst fear, and contempt.
By learning to respect your fellow humans, by learning to give love and by opening your heart and mind towards receiving love, you will have become a better man than you ever thought possible. It all begins with a single word and a single act. Better make it a nice one.
There is not such a thing as a “real” man. It is a notion no more powerful and worthy than the feeble minds that have created it in order to assert their dominion over those who haven’t discovered their true strengths. But there is such a thing as a The Better Man.
Begin your journey, and never look back.
