Most people who build a website or blog do so for the purpose of making money. The way to make money online is theoretically very simple.
1) Build a quality website, on which you:
a) Sell your own product
b) Use affiliate marketing
c) Sell information on how to make money online
d) Use Google AdSense
2) Get traffic to your website
That’s it. That’s the magic formula of how to make money online. The problem is, all of that is not that easy.
1) Build a quality website
This is the first and most important step in generating income online. You need to have a quality website.
By quality I mean it has to look good and look professional.
1) Don’t use free WordPress themes:
There free for a reason
2) Buy a premium theme:
It will look better. It will be easier to configure the way you want. It will make you more money in the long run. Thesis and Genesis are the best frameworks available, with many child themes to choose from. They offer you a lot more customization options. If you don’t want to do much customizing or pay for the top of the line stuff, ThemeForest is the place for you. They have a HUGE catalog of professionally made WordPress themes for purchase.
Genesis and Thesis are the top of the line programs you can use for creating a website. IMO Thesis is head and shoulder above genesis for customization. It may take a couple of days to get used to but it requires no coding knowledge and the things you can do are incredible.
a) Sell your own product
After you have built a quality website, the easiest way to generate income is to sell your own product.
1) You could create an eBook, offering information on your area of expertise
2) You could sell products and goods that you manufacture
3) You could sell yourself, via coaching and things like that
This is the most straightforward and easy way to make money online, but it requires that you have something of value to offer.
b) Affiliate marketing
Affiliate marketing is the second most popular way to make money online. Essentially you devote your website to selling other peoples/companies products. Each sale you make, you receive a cut, usually in to 5-10% range.
Affiliate marketing is easy because it does not require you to have any expertise or products to offer.
There are not many requirements on your end other than the need to drive traffic to your website. Without any traffic, there will be no one to click through your links/ads.
Some of the best affiliate websites available are listed below.
All you need to do is sign up with these companies, choose which products or programs you want to endorse, and start earning cash. But remember, in order to do this you gotta get the traffic!
c) Sell information on how to make money online
The main way to make money online is to take advantage of people wanting to make money online.
When you search the web for “how to make money online.” You are essentially a dollar sign behind a keyboard. You go in search of how to make money online, but all you end up doing is making someone else money.
I see it over and over. A popular blog with a decent amount of followers has an eBook “how to make money online with affiliate marketing.” It promises you to show you the path of making money through affiliate marketing.
The advice consists of:
1) Set up a review site
2) Review some products
3) Generate traffic to your website (Probably by spamming)
4) Provide an affiliate link for your readers
5) “Watch the money roll in.”
NO. No no no no no. The only place the money is going to roll is to the asshole who sold you this information for 10 bucks. If that’s how you should make money online, why aren’t they doing it. They run a legit website that gets good traffic. Because that’s how you make money online. Not by setting up a shitty review site. Never buy a shitty eBook like this online again.
1. All the information is free online
2. All the info in that eBook is shit.
I am in no way saying that affiliate marketing doesn’t work. Because it does. But you have to put the work in and create a site of value. You can’t set up a review site with a shitty WordPress theme and expect people to stumble up on it, see your short useless review, and buy something.
Its not the way the world works.
1. You’ll never get any traffic with a shitty website like this.
2. No one is going to trust your reviews, why would they.
This type of site may make you couple hundred bucks over the coarse of a year. Congratulations. You can fill up your car a few times.
Meanwhile the guy who sold you this advice made thousands of dollars selling this bad information to motivated people like yourself.
Its a brilliant system. And it works. Which is why if you want to make money online, that’s one thing you should be doing.
So if you want to make money online, sell information on how to make money online. Its as simple as that.
d) Use Google AdSense
MenProvement personally doesn’t use Google AdSense, and we do not recommend it.
1) Its ugly as all hell
Website quality and look is extremely important. Google AdSense single handedly will ruin the look of your web page. Shitty ads in the middle of articles, ads that make noise, its just a disaster.
2) When was the last time you have clicked a Google ad
Honestly to me I don’t even see them anymore. They are just in the background. When was the last time you even read a Google ad. Why do you think your readers will be any different.
3) Unless you are pulling insane amounts of traffic or are promoting things like medical equipment, you are wasting your time.
On most websites Google AdSense won’t earn you shit. When you are first starting out you won’t have a lot of traffic. Google ads will just keep your traffic low, due to the ugly nature of them. It also pays like .01 cents per click on normal items. If you are promoting helicopters or medical equipment your ads may drive you hundreds of dollars per click. ( Its possible ) but other than that, its shit..
2) Get traffic to your website
No matter what methods you choose to use to generate income with your website, they will all be useless unless you can generate traffic. The more traffic, the more $. Some of the most common and quick ways to generate traffic are:
1) High value content:
No matter what anyone ever says to you, and no matter how many tricks you are using to get people to your website, you will never have a continuous flow of traffic unless you have soething of value to offer.
You need to create articles that really offer something to the reader. People aren’t stupid. You can’t just lure them into a shitty website and expect them to buy something, share the site, or even come back. You need to create something that keeps readers coming back. Without this all of your traffic attempts are a waste of time.
So before you move on focus on this. It may take a while but you can’t build something strong without a solid base.
You can either pay for advertising or do free advertising yourself.
a) Google pay-per-click is a paid advertising method where you pay per the amount of clicks to your website that you get. Essentially you get what you pay for. Your ads will show up on the side or top of Google searches when someone inputs the keyword you are paying for. Each time someone clicks on the ad, you pay Google. With good keyword planning, this can work very well in your favor.
b) You can also pay to be advertised on Facebook. The more you pay the more likes you will get.
c) You can be creative and advertise on your own. Print flyers, create a car decal, be creative. Your mind is the limit.
3) Utilize SEO:
SEO is your search engine optimization. Essentially you want to rank as high in search engines as you can, the main one being Google. This can take a while, but there are some things you can do to help yourself out.
a) Have high quality articles:
Offer high quality information and articles on your site, and Google will rank you higher.
Keep your articles above 750 words. In my opinion you should aim to be above 2000 to rank high in Google, but don’t write an essay or add fluff. Keep the article about what you want it to be and don’t compromise its integrity just to increase the length.
Use pictures and videos. Google likes to see videos embedded and it will help your SEO. It is also a big boost to the viewer experience.
Utilize headers and sub headers. Put your keyword in headers and sub headers, and use it throughout the article often. Just try to keep everything clean and organized.
b) Generate Back-links:
The more links you have on other websites that go back to your website, the better. The bigger and better those websites are, the more powerful the links for you are.
It can be tough to get good links on high ranking websites but start by
– Posting to free directories or blog carnivals and
– Post your link in your signature when you are on forums. Offer good advice and answer questions about your niche genuinely. If people like what you have to say, they just may click your link in your signature below. There’s more on this below.
– Network among other bloggers in your niche. Talk to people, write guest posts, have interviews. Whatever it takes to get your name out there and to get your link on other peoples sites.
– Eventually when your content and site are good enough, people will link back to it automatically. This is all about providing good content. It is statistically shown that the most back-linked articles contain over 2500 words. So don’t think you can post out any piece of shit and have people sharing it with the world. Get to work.
– Don’t buy links. You will get shitty links, its not worth it, and IMO its not good for Google rankings. I try to stay away from anything shady because Google can penalize you and then you wont even rank on page 50.
c) Provide internal links:
Internal links are seen as Google as back-links. If you have a high ranking article that links to another one of your low ranking articles, this will help boost the lower articles SEO.
d) Download a SEO Plugin:
WP SEO by Yoast or All-In-One SEO are the best two. Download them, configure them, and they will do the rest.
4) Post on forums:
By posting useful information and helping others on forums you can create a good reputation on that site. You can link back to your page in your signature and the more posts you have the more people who will click to your website.
However, be careful not to spam. You will get banned and its generally just annoying. You want your website to have a good reputation. Provide posts and answers that are useful and helpful.
A tip is to answer genuinely and try to forget about the traffic. This will make your posts more real, and probably generate more traffic in turn.
5) Social Media:
Social media is HUGE in this generation. I can’t stress it enough. If you can master social media, you will have no trouble pulling in loads of traffic to make you loads of money. Just a few of the sites you can use to pull in a lot of traffic are:
– Stumble Upon
– Much more..
These sites are used by millions everyday and if your not taking advantage of it then you are doing yourself a great injustice.
6) Generate an email list
Even on top of social media, this is the most important step in generating income from your website. You need to harbor subscribers, which essentially are, customers. Every subscriber you have is a new customer for you to pitch to via email. They are customers that will keep coming back at each post update, and with each newsletter.
a) Email Signup Forms
Email signup forms are obviously the most effective way at building an email subscription. Its essential that these signup forms capture the attention of viewers and be in prime location on your website.
The top of the side bar, the bottom of each post, and a feature bar in the middle of your website are the highest converting spots. Pop-ups are also known to convert highly but I don’t really like them. They take away from the user experience, and in the end, that is the most important thing.
Before you can use email signup boxes, you need to subscribe to an email list service in order to start generating an email list. The two top dogs are Mail Chimp and Aweber. Mail Chimp is only $5.00 a month while Aweber is $20.00, but you get what you pay for.
Aweber’s service allows you to create beautiful custom signup boxes and has email templates that are second to none. If you want to be seen as professional, you need to look professional. Its the little details that make all the difference.
b) Comment opt in plugins
Download a quick plugin for allowing your readers to subscribe to your blog by checking a box when they submit a comment. This is an extremely effective way to convert readers into subscribers.
There are many ways to make money online, and many ways to do it. Decide what methods suit your website and skills, do the research, and apply them. The most important thing to remember is that this is not a quick thing. If you truly want to generate solid income online you are in for the long haul. Were talking possibly over a year until money starts coming in, and many years until its worth a full time income. But you must remember that it will be worth it, and nothing worth while comes easy.
